Notes allow you to keep track of important call details, day-to-day processes, and internal communications. You can create notes from scratch (blank note) or use a note template with pre-filled text and fields.
Create a note from scratch
A blank note allows you to capture basic details related to an account, contact, opportunity, or other object within Catalyst. You can also add tasks and update fields as you edit. Notes have a
- From the top bar, click the + > Note > Blank Note.
Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut
A new note draft appears. All activity within the note auto-saves as a draft after a pause in typing or if you close. Drafts are private to you until the note is published. (You can find all your note drafts from Data > Favorites > My Drafts.)N
from any screen.
The top half of the note captures attributes about the note; the bottom half captures the contents of the note and actions.
- Enter the following details in the top half of the note (attributes):
- Title: The subject line of the note.

Object(s): Click the (+) button to add an account, contact, opportunity, and/or additional object that is related to this note. If you were already viewing the object prior to creating the note, the name will automatically appear. Click an object to open the related view in the background.
Once a note is published, you cannot change the object(s) selected.
- Categories: Choose one or more category to classify this note for reporting capabilities.
- Additional contacts: In addition to the primary object(s) associated with this note, choose additional contact(s) on the related account, if applicable.

More note fields: Complete the additional note fields (if available). Hover over a field name to read the description for special instructions or recommended conventions, if any.
Admins can configure custom note fields within Settings > Object Configuration.
- Start typing in the note body in the bottom half of the note (contents). Use any of the following options to enhance the note.
Notes have a 32K character limit; formatting, images, and tables apply to the limit. Catalyst shows % space in the corner, as you approach the limit:

Formatting: Use the toolbar to apply text formatting, font and background colors, horizontal lines, block quotes, code blocks, and more.
- Attachment: Click + > Attachment in the toolbar (or click the paperclip icon) to add a file (100MB maximum file size)
- Image: Upload an image from your local files.
- Embedded media: Add a URL to an image or other media.

Table: Add an inline table with rich text toolbar to edit cell or table properties.
A blue highlight around media/tables (focus mode) allows you to drag-and-drop the component in the note; a yellow highlight indicates edit mode.The table editor does not support column or row resizing. You can delete table rows, but you cannot delete the only row of a table without deleting the table itself.

Task: Click + > Task in the toolbar (or type
/task [press Enter]
in the note body) to add a task for yourself. Enter a task name, click the calendar to set a due date, and click the flag to set priority.A task cannot be created on a published note.

Field: Click + > Field in the toolbar (or type
/field [press Enter]
in the note body) to select a field from the account, opportunity, contact or an additional object. Learn more about field commands.

Formatting: Use the toolbar to apply text formatting, font and background colors, horizontal lines, block quotes, code blocks, and more.
- Click the Options menu (three dots) in the bottom left corner for more options:
- Delete: Delete the draft or published note.
- Save as template: Save to the template library to start another note from this pre-filled draft next time.
- Optionally sync the note to Salesforce. Located at the bottom of the note, the "Sync Note" default setting is unchecked; you must manually check this box to sync notes to Salesforce. After publishing a note with the box checked, your browser saves this preference for all future notes (unless you clear your cache, use an incognito window, or access the app on a new device).
- Click Publish in the bottom right corner when you are finished editing your note.
If you have selected your note to sync to Salesforce, your updates will be automatically synced once you've published your note. If you’re using the Slack integration, only published notes will ping Slack.
Create a note from a template
A note template allows you to start with pre-filled field values and contents to make note entry faster. You can also add tasks and update fields as you edit.
- From the top bar, click the + > Note > See all templates or click a favorite template to start immediately.
Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut
The list of available templates appears. You can sort by all your team's templates, only templates you created, or all of your favorites.N
from any screen and click Templates from the notes draft. Or, navigate to the Templates page > Note Templates. - Click on a template to see a preview. When ready to use it, click Use to create a new note based on the template.
Star a template to add it to your favorites.
- Associate the note to an account, contact, opportunity, or other object within Catalyst. Complete the remaining details of the note.
- Click Publish in the bottom right corner when you are finished editing your note.
Edit and track changes on a published note
You can edit details of published notes, with the exception of the object(s) associated.
- Open the published note.
Published notes appear on the Notes view of the object(s) with which they're associated. You can also find notes using search and from the Data page.
- Click inside the note to modify note metadata or contents. Changes are auto-saved, and a log of changes are listed under the note activity.
- Optionally add comments to provide additional context and engage other team members.
